Work List

We haven't had much work to do at the centre lately so in order not to allow us to fall behind all we should be doing and just potter about instead. I've created a work list for myself in the morning identifying what I needed to do for that day and arranging them in importance. The work list allowed me to see what I needed to do rather than dragging small things out so they can fit the day. The work list family was so successful that my manager decided it might be a good idea if everyone was to try it.

Risk assessments

Risk assessments are some thing heard throughout the county council. I have recently had to undergo a risk assessment in my work due to working with female service users. I am a male member of staff and one of the few in the area and therefore city at risk as service uses sometimes exaggerate or planemaker scenarios. These scenarios can be that a member of staff hit them or sexually assaulted them. I have been accused of sexual assault on service users twice in one month by different service users. None of this true (strong evidence against the claims) this still makes me feel uneasy about my work situation and is making the work environment unnecessarily stressful. I spokes to personel and discussed having a in-depth risk assessment conducted on my work environment and the service users within it. Linda Douglas risk assessment with my manager we recorded ratings of the risky elements and methods of reducing that risk.

New year, New start, New Job??

The fifth of January 2009

Its the New Year and for me a new start... or is it. The council had decided that the land that the centre is situated on is valuable enough to sell. So last year a number of meetings were established to develop a contingency plan for the service. We are currently cater for meetings and help train adults with learning difficulties within the catering industry. We looked at a number of sites for this and a change of service as a possibility as catering facilities were found to be very expensive.

Today the team had a meeting with the management it was decided that due to difficulties he would be best if service is to remain at the centre until later in the year. The promise of new training for a different job has now died. We have lost thousands of pounds worth of business as we had to turn away many groups wanting to book with us as we didn't think we would be at the centre still.

We are now more costly to the council as a making much less money. The bookings are made months and months in advance and so business will not pick up for another six months. And there is no guarantee that we will be at the centre in six months. So we had very little to do at the centre. No new job infact i dout there is much of a job left.

December the 3rd The cakes

We started making cakes for Christmas hundreds of cakes are needing to be marzipaned and a iced and then decorated. I a while ago created a costings database and that was directly linked to a recipe list which meant that the product could be cosseted before making it with estimations (the system was not used before I came along) . I was able to notice that that was a very small if any profit made in these Christmas cakes which are used as a 'PR' tool. Noticing that there was little profit to be made a few months ago I undertook a futile products in order to establish if there was a mother product that could be introduced with a big enough profit margin. It was found that a very popular product and its a gingerbread house. I then offered it to local businesses and organisations as a product that could be customised into their own buildings. So far I have been commissioned to complete a church and hotel and a factory along with many houses. Making this year the most profitable for the bakery in a long time over the Christmas season.

26th of November complaints

At the last week I've had complaints training and my first complaint. The complaint was regarding my inability to speak Welsh and communicate to a server shooter who can apparently and speak Welsh however there is a huge amount of evidence to say that she can perfectly understand English. I promptly signed up for a Welsh course. Training on how to calm yourself after a complaint or drawing a complaint should be included in training in my opinion as I found it very hard to deal with.

19th November

A member of our service users staff at a major epileptic fit. An ambulance was called and the other service users went slightly out of control. We have procedures for this kind of event however I have had no epilepsy training or was not told the official guidelines them should county council in in providing help to someone who is experiencing an epileptic fit. I have now been booked on a course and have been debriefed from the shocking experience. This highlights the me a problem of poor provisions for very necessary training that certain members of staff. the rest of the week was fairly docile roughly 30% Administration and 70% social care and catering.

12th of November bookings

Problems with bookings and and absences of staff due to training have made this week very difficult. I think ive been stressed this last week due to arranging the Christmas party trying to collect deposits. Due to cancellations of bookings have been very quiet and have prepared Christmas recipes and stock list. Nothing much to report.
